How Nigeria Entertainment Industry Will Fast Become Like The Nigeria Politics

Posted by On December 10, 2017

Entertainment and politics are two different worlds on their own, but in Nigeria, I fear they might end up on the same road. And why is this so?

Right from the political era of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Akitu Abubakar, President Musa Yar’dua, and a host of top politicians.

Most of these men have been running and ruling the Nigeria Politics since the 1990s’ till date, thereby not leaving any political seat for young blood to take over from the post they so much cherish. I guess this disputes the say that “the future is in the hands of the youths “.

Now, this brings me back to the entertainment sector in Nigeria, from the likes of 2face, Idris Abdulkarim, Tony Tetuila, Olu-Maintain, P-square (though now separated), and a bunch of other old successful Music gods that have been in the music game for long and not even ready to retire, which on the long long obstructs ways for young and ‘weak’ singers in the music line.

Nigerian Entertainment Industry

Yes! you will say what about the likes of Davido and Wizkid that are making it big even while these old artists are still there.

Davido is a hard-working youth from a rich background (Opportunity meets money), Wizkid was groomed by Banky W, and Banky gave Wizkid lots of opportunities and that is why Wizkid will always include Banky’s name when writing his success stories. This is just one positive case in out of a thousand negative cases in the industry.

Another artist that has made it don’t have the time to groom upcoming artiste and why is this so? This is because they still all want there names in the entertainment line thereby slimming the chance of that young artiste to become big.

Recently M.I released a song titled “You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Lives“.

The songs spoke about why M.I can’t retire from the Music scene yet, ‘cus most of these upcoming aren’t well groomed. They only tend to release songs that last just a few weeks on the airwaves and that is all.

As a music critic, the problem isn’t the young singer, but the old singer who has refused to teach the young singers on how to take over from them in the entertainment world. BUT NO! Everybody still loves the Fame, Money & Paparazzi, just like the Nigeria Politics

This has been my fear for the music industry in Nigeria, it might not be that obvious now, but believe me. It is metamorphosing and I really hope the industry realizes this before it is too late. #GroomTheYoung
